Profil

Kansai-based visual band SINCREA's music is energetic rock with an optimistic sound and emphasis on melody. The high register HAL sings in has caused the band to be likened to early period Janne Da Arc. Though it was slow going at first, the quartet's momentum has been building and it looks like a very bright future lies ahead of them. (Intr-adevar si eu ma gandeam la Yasu cand le-am ascultat prima oara muzcia, see some similarities with Acid Negru Cherry too)

Interviu la Tsukicon in Finlanda. Credits to JaMe! (2008)

JaME had the opportunity to interview SINCREA at the Tsukicon event which took place in Helsinki in October. We asked the band members about their backgrounds, their Finland visit and their new upcoming album.

Hello, we represent JaME, a website about Japanese music.

SINCREA: Hello!

Is it true that you met in high school?

TOMO: HIRO and HAL were in the same school and they formed a band for their school’s culture festival. The drummer left the band and KAZI happened to be in the same prepschool as HIRO so he asked KAZI to join the band as the new drummer. The band’s first guitarist also left and I took his place.

The Japanese educational system is known for it’s strict measure. What memories do you have from when you were students? What was your favourite subject in school?

HIRO: I enjoyed physical education, music and social studies! My favorite after-school club was the football club.
TOMO: My favorite subjects were P.E. and music. Favorite club was the baseball club.
KAZI: I also liked P.E. and music the most! The football club and the brass band club were my favorite clubs.
HAL: For me it was P.E and music. The basketball after-school club was my favorite.

What bands/artists have influenced you? What made you get into music?

HAL: Janne da Arc.
KAZI: Visual kei bands and Western metal. I like Slipknot, Rammstein and Children of Bodom.
TOMO: Janne da Arc and Siam Shade have inspired me.
HIRO: Janne da Arc, X JAPAN and LUNA SEA!

Do you work along with making music? How do you spend your free time?

KAZI: I work in the kitchen of an izakaya¹! (laughs)
HAL: I also work in an izakaya¹!

Do you work in the same izakaya?

KAZI and HAL: We work in izakayas of the same chain, but not in the same one!
TOMO: I work in a ramen restaurant. (smiles)
HIRO: I work in an okonomiyaki² restaurant!

[¹ A Japanese drinking establishment where they serve alcohol and food to accompany it.
² A dish consisting of a batter cake and other ingredients. The batter cake is pan fried and its composition is egg-like.]

Is working for restaurants and such common in Japan since you all work in one?

SINCREA: (first they bicker playfully if the salary is good or not) These kinds of restaurants are common in Japan so their need for employees is great. You can get a job at a restaurant easily!

What did you know about Finland before coming here and how does it feel to finally be here?

HAL: People are very friendly here. It is great. (others nod)

Your new album will be released very soon. Have you already started recording it? What can we expect from the album?

TOMO: The album is already finished!

Great! What can we expect from it?

KAZI and TOMO: This is our first full length album and we have tried to combine different things on it. This is the first release where we truly stand out from our influences and continue on our own path. We have done something new that is totally our own and the album purely represents the true style of SINCREA.

When you’re on tour do you take up on certain roles? One worries all the time, one is the leader and so on..

TOMO: We do everything as a group and everyone is always on time for meetings and such. We don’t really have any special roles. (smiles and the others nod)

Do you have any secret skills your fans aren’t aware of?

HIRO: I’m good at making okonomiyaki! (laughs)
TOMO: I like motorcycles a lot, I drive a lot with one and I am even good at it! The others don’t want me to ride with a motorcycle to the studio for example, since they think it’s dangerous. (laughs)
KAZI: I don’t have a secret skill. (everyone laughs)
(Someone yells "You’re good at making Japanese fast food!" and everyone laughs again.)
HAL: I am good at eating! I can eat anything and everything that is put down in front of me! (everyone laughs)

Could you give a message to your fans?

TOMO: Even though we are not a very famous band, lots of people have come here to see us and to listen to our music. It makes us happy and makes us want to come here again immediately. Please invite us to Finland again! (everyone laughs)
